Pregnancy is such a momentous time in a woman’s life and I love documenting it for my clients. I offer two locations for maternity sessions: outdoors in the field or in the studio. There are a few differences between the two locations, so it’s a good idea to think about which one will work best for you.
Both maternity session types include use of the studio wardrobe and a styling consultation to choose pieces to wear prior to your session, or to simply get guidance on what to wear. One main difference between the studio maternity session and the outdoor maternity session is that the studio session includes an outfit change. The reason for this is that it is quick and easy to change into a second outfit in the studio, whereas outdoors there is no privacy and it is more difficult and time consuming to do so. Since the maternity sessions are around 20 minutes, outdoor session are limited to one outfit.
While the outdoor maternity sessions offer golden light from sunsets and feature natural foliage in the field, the studio maternity sessions utilize the natural light in the studio and furniture such as the bed and chairs. Both are equally beautiful, but each has a different feel. The decision of whether to go with a natural landscape or a more luxurious setting is up to you.
One thing to consider when making your decision is the time of year. As a Houston Maternity Photographer, I understand that weather plays a big role in outdoor photo shoots. In the hotter months you may want to choose an indoor session so that you are not uncomfortable in the elements of nature. Another thing to keep in mind is that if it happens to rain on your session date we will need to reschedule, so if you are getting close to your due date an indoor session may be best for you.
Both types of maternity sessions that I offer include a few photos with your partner (if you choose) so keep that in mind when deciding which type of session you want also. Sometimes your partner can even help you make a decision if you are on the fence about which setting you want!
