I have photographed many families over the years, but these were my first family photos with a set of triplets. Mom expressed that their family hadn’t ever had professional photos done and that she figured now was the time. I couldn’t agree more! The trio of 5-year-olds were absolutely adorable, as was their 8-month-old little brother. They were a little shy at first but after playing a few games and having some fun with mom and dad they quickly warmed up.
My intention, as always with family photos, is to capture organic connections. Most of us feel a little awkward in front of the camera and don’t know quite what to do with ourselves, which I why I give direction to help natural interactions and emotions unfold. I don’t want to deliver photos with forced, unnatural smiles and uncomfortable “poses”; I want real smiles, laughter and love. One of the reasons that I adore photographing children is because once they feel comfortable with me they let their true nature come out and I can capture it in all it’s beauty.
We ended up creating a gorgeous gallery of framed fine art prints for above the fireplace in their home. In fact, there is a photo of it on Instagram so get take a look!
